Demolition of Civic Arena

The fifty year old steel - roof that the Pittsburgh Penguins called home for awhile is now finally be demolished. The Penguins moved to the Consol Energy Center last year and will now call that building home for many years to come. A group tried to keep the building from being torn down because they claimed it was a landmark in the city and wanted to preserve the building. They hoped the city would agree to keep the building and they would be able to use it for other events. Unfortunately for that group their efforts failed and the building began being demolished this past week. The whole first level of seats are already removed from the arena and the construction crew will continue their work until finally the whole building is gone. Once the building is completely demolished the Penguin organization has hopes to build restaurants and stores in its place. Fans look forward to enjoying the new plaza before they cross the street to see the Penguins take the ice at Consol Energy Center.
